By the early 80's they were hemorging (sp?) cash. Rising costs and quality going down hill eventually did the Ithaca NY Ithaca Gun in. I have heard this from many old time employees. Ithaca Gun was making money and basically General Recreation sucked cash out of it to help fund other endevours to make a long story short. It was pretty popular in the 70's and I guess it was good stuff. The marketed a brand of hunting clothing called 10X. They had companies that made clothing, I think camping gear, and various outdoor products. General Recreation had their hands in many areas. Ithaca Gun was sold to a group called General Recreation. Ithaca Gun was a family owned company up until the 1960's. Here's a very shortend version of the demise of the old Ithaca Gun. but thanks for the compliment, most folks just call me Dave

We all have had to track down our particular pieces as, for the most part, you simply cannot walk into Dick's, Cabelas and any of the multitude of places across the country and find them stocked on the shelves like you can a $300.00 870 Express in 12 or 20.
